About the Metaquake SymposiumWhy the BEYA Metaquake Symposium?Discovery and education represent two important outcomes of the BEYA Metaquake Symposium. The BEYA Metaquake Symposium will provide dedicated space for novices and veterans alike to learn from seasoned experts and foster connections within the worlds of technology, business, education, and government. The BEYA Metaquake Symposium will provide a deeper understanding of the technologies that are the foundation of the metaverse which include cryptocurrency, blockchain, NFTs, gaming, VR/AR, Web3, education, and beyond. We believe that sharing knowledge is the most sustainable way to ensure that every person will participate in metaverse opportunities and experiences. Making room for the futureThe BEYA Metaquake Symposium, scheduled the week before the 37th Annual BEYA STEM Conference creates a forum to explore the technologies that are being harnessed by pioneers to create the metaverses. Early adapters are blazing the way stitching together some of the foundational technologies to create products and experiences that are propelling the creation of metaverses much like our own STEM City and the BEYA STEM DTX platforms, which offer yearlong programming. This event will explore the ecosystem by bringing together educators, researchers, business professionals, artists, gamers, and even novelists to explore and learn more about the metaverse. We want to start the conversation that answers the question most people ask when they hear about the metaverse: what is the metaverse and what does that mean for me? Preparing the next generationWe’re especially proud to annex the BEYA Pre-College program to anchor this event where the youth will learn about the metaverse and the tools used to create metaverses. We will, in addition to the traditional program, engage the students in a scholastic metaverse building competition which will culminate into a metaverse hackathon. Harnessing the past to fuel the futureAdditionally, we will re-engage with past award recipients to induct the sixth class since 2010, into the Alumni Hall of Fame as beacons and resources for the next generation to benchmark their pursuit of excellence – on their personal journey to becoming everything they can be. Who Should Attend?This event is for anyone who is curious about the metaverse and want to engage in discussions designed to expand your knowledge, to identify your points of entry in this emerging technology, and to understand how your future may evolve. It’s for educators and students. Organizations that are exploring or engaging teams to develop and implement metaverse strategies. It’s for individuals who want to know how metaverse strategies can disrupt a carefully planned career trajectory. It’s for anyone who grapples with the jargon of the metaverse and wish to gain a base knowledge that they can build on. The Skilled Technical Workforce: America’s Blue Collar STEM Workforce (University of DC)ObjectivesThis workforce is vital to the well-being of our society and to the economic competitiveness of our nation. Coast to coast, businesses large and small need adaptable, STEM-capable workers at every level of education and from all demographic backgrounds. While some careers in STEM require a four-year or graduate degree, many are available to applicants without a traditional four-year college degree. Blue-collar STEM careers are those requiring technical skills, problem-solving, and specialized training that is more than a high school diploma but less than a traditional four-year degree. These types of jobs cut across industries, such as IT, computer science, engineering, energy, and many more.
