Our Mission and Purpose

Service to the Nation

Our mission is to strengthen the nation’s security and global leadership by encouraging more citizens to pursue educational and career paths in STEM fields.

Purpose and Goals of Stars and Stripes

  • Inspire youth to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
  • Increase the number of senior-level officers and members of the Senior Executive Service (SES)
  • Raise public awareness about the military
  • Support the transition of veterans to civilian life
  • Foster camaraderie and community within the military

Our History

Each year, US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine highlights progress within the U.S. Armed Forces, featuring the Veterans Issue that focuses on flag-rank officers — admirals, generals, and members of the federal Senior Executive Service. These leaders have demonstrated courage, wisdom, resourcefulness, and unwavering dedication to their country.

Widely Attended Gatherings of Military, Students, and Employers

Stars and Stripes is one of the largest events in the nation dedicated to honoring both active and retired admirals, generals, and senior executive leaders. Each year, the featured branch of service alternates between the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force, and National Guard Bureau.
